Difference between one way slab and two way slab in construction?

Ans: One way slab is the slab having ratio of longer span to shorter span equal to or more than 1.5 . If the ratio of longer span to shorter span is equal to or less than 1.5, then such slabs are called as two way slab. In one way slab main tensile reinforcement is placed parellel to shorter side which will be the main steel, where as in two way slab both direction required main steel.

What is the way of reinforcement of one way slab?

if length/breadth equal or greater than 2 then its oneway slab and reinforcement is on the short span because moments are great near the supports

What is the difference between one way slab and two way slab?

when l/b ratio more than or equal to 2 then slab is designed as one way and when l/b ratio is less than 2 then slab is designed as two way.

How do you calculate the crank lenght in a rcc slab?

Crank lengths are used because the moments at the edge strips are negative while that at mid span are positive so reinforcement are alternatively provided at the top and bottom respectively.. so just to have connection between the reinforcement and for the slab to behave as a single unit by providing continuous bars, cranking is done in slabs..

What is the difference between one way and two way slab?

if LY/LX>2 than we use one way slab if <2 than use two way slab. One way slab supported only two direction and two way slab supported in all four direction.

What are the disadvantages of a waffle slab?

Slab penetrations are limited to the maximum area of a single cell. One must have a structural engineer determine the viability of creating a slab penetration any larger than the size of a single cell to determine if reinforcement is necessary.

What is the difference between waffle slab and ribbed slab?

Waffle slabs are two-way spanning slabs whose beams(in two diresctions) are at very close centres whereas a ribbed slab is a one way spanning slab whose secondary beams are at very close centres, but not their primary beams.

What are the difference between two way slab and one way slab?

The basic difference between one way and two way slab is load distribution which is depends on support condition and span lengths.Mainly shorter span is carring larger load than longer span. This load distribution can be calculated considering the deflection at any point is same Shorter and Longer Span.

If you have a slab has a short length of 3m and a long one of 6m do you take as one way slab or tow way slab?

when the length of the slab is more or equal to twice the breadth hence it has to be one way slab.
