go to the back of the unit and look for a red wire, snip it, then put a male plug on one side and a female plug on the other, and plug it in and out. The other way is to put a toggle switch in our vehicle and cut the red wire, plug use to female plugs and plug them into each side of the switch, when you want to turn it off, turn the switch off, then when you want it on, turn it back on. Though many commercial 'truck' or 'company' GPS unites store your data with a time - this is to protect the driver and company and lower the insurance. So if someone accuses you of a crime, your GPS data will show without question that you are on the other side of town -- so court cases are easily dismissed.

Another way is to simply unplug the antenna -- some antennas plug in, and these can have the plug expanded so that they fall out easily and are far more easily explained than cut wires or hidden switches. thought again, many commercial units have time AND data stamps on them and if it falls out every day or every Monday and Wednesday at 3:30 and says off until $:20 - questions might arise.

another solution is to just twist the connections just about an half an inch back from the plug to help create an internal short. of course the easiest way is to just turn it off - unless it is meant to keep track of you ans where that vehicle is going -- some trucks and buses have RPM trackers which track your gear vs your speed vs your RPM to see if you are 1) speeding 2) OVER or UNDER revving your diesel engine before you shift, and if you re in the right gear for your load -- all of which gets very expensive when it comes to preventive maintenance -- a 250,000 transmission jog should not have to be done at 120,000 miles unless there were faulty materials used -- and the log is admissible evidence court -- so if a mechanic shows that he installed top of he line bearings in your White or Kenworth and they all begging to fail at 120,000 miles and generally last well over 300,000 miles, then a secondary suit might be started against the mechanic, and HIS recoreds shold show a pattern of poor rebuilds.

You can turn it on -- take a large syrenge from a feed store, and inject water into the unit through the vent holes while it is moving, and short out the intenal parts -- but there is always explaining to do.

MY Question to yo is WHY do you want to to disable it? If you are doing what you should, then there is no reason to disable it unless the light interferes with your ability to drive at which point you need to go to to a real electrical shop that sells the unit and have a dimmer to off switch installed. and that will dim the screen, but not turn the device off.
