Lizards are a carrier of Salmonella, however with proper care it is very easy to avoid getting it from them. After handling or being around a lizard's habitat wash up to your elbows with any anti-bacterial soap and you can also use a hand sanitizer after as well. Never touch around your face or open wound without washing your hands and arms first.

A few interesting Salmonella facts:

1) You are more likely to get Salmonella from a bathroom than an animal

2) Salmonella is the technical term for 24hour flu

yes, they sometimes step in their droppings, and it spreads to your hands when you pick them up. It is good to wash your hands after handling a reptile such as leos to avoid the bacteria spreading to your body.

Please extract the poor lizards from your curry and rinse them off, silly. Not sure you should still eat the curry. Some lizards carry salmonella....Though, I suppose you could just heat your curry back up to 167°f for 10 minutes to kill any possible salmonella...after removing lizards please.

Monitors, like other large lizards can defend themselves by biting (quite hard, I wore leather gloves when I handled my Savannah Monitor until she got used to me) and whipping their tails at you. They can also carry salmonella, so wash your hands thoroughly after handling them.
