The words that are translated "angel" in English versions of The Bible simply mean "messenger." Sometimes those messengers are sent from God and sometimes they can be sent by men. Usually, the word "angel" refers to messengers from God that are heavenly beings taking earthly forms. In Matthew 22:30, Jesus says that "At the resurrection people will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the angels in heaven." Being "like" the angels in heaven is not the same as being "equal to" the angels in heave. Revelation 4 is one of a few places in the Bible giving us a glimpse of what heaven is like. It describes various creatures that may or may not be properly categorized as "angels." It also mentions humans who apparently differ from other heavenly creatures. However, any Biblical depiction of heaven is no doubt symbolic, that is, it describes a nonearthly reality using earthly language. We should be cautious of being overly literal in our understanding of these passages of scripture.
