It would depend on how a dancer would take care of their feet. For me and the girls I have danced point with, we all have rough feet. We refer to our not so smooth or good looking feet as 'dancer's feet'.

Does pointe hurt?

this is a really question to answer. yes, a lot of dancers do get a lot of pain in their feet when they do pointe work, and there are lots of photos of horrible looking feet belonging to ex dancers, but... this does not have to be the case! most issues with pain are due to badly fitting shoes or weak feet, and it often happens when both are happening together! if you take the time to strengthen your feet well before you starting en pointe, and you get a shoe that fits your foot very well, you should have very little pain in the feet. as dancers begin to do more and more hours en pointe, the chances of discomfort in the feet obviously increases but you, should be able to do several hours a week very comfortably. when you first start you will only do a few minutes at the end of each class. if you are strong before starting pointe work, you avoid taking strain through the growth plates. most dancers have no issues at all with the growth of their feet, and the problems that occur (like stress fractures or ligament sprains) are usually because of bad techneique, or doing a step that is too hard for the dancer to control. many dancers have long careers with no problems with their feet. so... the problem is not in doing the pointe work, it is how you do it!

Which pointe shoes are best for intermediate dancers with a high arch but can't get over all the way on to pointe?

I would always recommend Freed. Freed Studios are great for class, they help develop strong feet. If you can't get all the way over, you need to do some feet strengthening exercises. Also stretch your arches. Look into 3/4 shank shoes for performances.

Are ballet dancers fitter than footballl players?

Hell yes ballet dancers are stronger. Footbal players are all meat and muscle that isnt true. Ballet dancers also can go on pointe it takes extreme muscle time and effort to do that. Anyone can doggie pile like an idiot but can anyone do a double pirouette on pointe? The answer is no.

What is a demi-pointe?

Demi Pointe is a releve in flat shoes (Not Pointe Shoes). A releve is when you lift your heels and all that you are standing on is the balls of your feet and the bottoms of your toes. Hope that helps! :]

Is the RAD demi pointe shoes for pointe work?

kind of.. demi point shoes are to make your feet stronger.. iv been on pointe for a while now, and my RAD teacher has just suggested that i purchase a pair of demi pointes (or soft blocks) i have strong feet, but this is what she explained to me: professional dancers dance on pointe.. so why do we dance all these years on flats or split soles? she says that professionals almost never dance on stage with flats, so in order to train our feet and not put them in total pain with pointe shoes.. we wear demi pointes.

What do the high life dancers wear when dancing?

Well if you're talking about Ballet then they all wear pointe shoes. They are the classic shoes you associate with Ballet but boy, do they hurt! The pointe shoes require you to dance on your tippy toes and if under age children ( aged up until at least 12 years old) try to use pointe it can lead to damage of the foot, the best example being Cheryl Cole, who had gone onto pointe too early which caused her to damage her feet and had to get an operation before being able to wear high heels. But pointe shoes aren't all bad. They look great and if used right, cause no injuries.

Can men en pointe?

Yes although it is not very common at all. Your teacher [assuming you are a boy] may put you en pointe for a short time to strengthen your feet and improve your feet's flexibility. There have been one or two cases of men performing on stage in pointe shoes but they were only as skits intended for humor.

What muscles are used in pointe?

All the muscles in your feet and legs. It's important to have control of your releve and that you know how to control your entire foot when you're pushing from demi-pointe to full pointe. You will feel it particularly in your ankles and foot, but in your thighs and calves as well.

Why do ballerinas have curved feet?

Ballerinas do not necessarily have curved feet. It all depends on the dancer's tendu (i.e foot being pointed). Some dancers have naturally strong and flexible toes and feet, while others have to work to improve their arches in the feet. If you wanted to go on to Pointe, you would have to have extremely strong feet and a good arch. If you want, try this: Point your toes and then you will see that everyone has curved feet, it's just that ballerinas have more developed feet. :) I hope that helps answer your question! - Dottini :P (The Ballet Girl)

Is have Grishkos for your first pair of pointe shoes bad?

Everyone has differently shaped feet, so it just depends on the person. Grishkos often have harder shanks, which will make it more difficult for a beginning pointe student to get their arches all the way over the box. Grishkos are great pointe shoes, however, but they might not be right for you feet - go to a store and have yourself fitted for the right brand of pointe shoes if it's your first time.
