Any breed of dog can get along with another, but it all depends on the age of them. Male and male don't get along, unless they are both really young and grow up with each other. Females tend to get along with any of the genders, no matter what breed.
I think it just depends on the personalties. If you want a beagle but already have a golden retriever then I think you should bring home the beagle for a couple of days and see how the dogs get along.

i personally like both of them a beagle is a hound so it would sniff out everything and a golden retriever is an active dog breed. they are both great family dogs and love children. golden retrievers are really easy to train and beagles, not so much. beagles are better for hunting families and golden retrievers are best all around
