I am sure the first rifles made using black powder did not have a serial number engraved.
Antique rifles without a serial number do exist. I am however unsure what the law state about collector pieces. Logically one can not force a serial number onto a piece that originally was made without one.
There is a strong likelihood that it does not have one. Serial numbers were not required by law on rifles and shotguns until 1968. If the shotgun is a muzzle loader that uses loose powder and shot, it is considered an antique firearm under Federal law, and is not required to have a serial number.

Jukar indicates a modern reproduction of a muzzleloader- but there were pistols and rifles- and you don't tell us what you have, or condition. These are fairly low cost- rifles are about $150, pistols about $80
Your rifle was made ROUGHLY 1925-1965. These were untility grade rifles, intended for hunting or plinking. They made great boys rifles due to the very slender wrist of the stock. Savage/Stevens/Springfield was at one time the largest gun maker in the US, and made several thousands of the 86 series. Rifles made late in the production had a black tip painted on the forearm. Serial numbers were not required by law on rifles and shotguns until 1968. Many of these guns were also made under hardware store brand names, such as Gambles Store. I have 3 different versions, different grades of wood in sthe stocks, and my grandkids love them.
not enough information to answer, need to know the style and maker of the gun, serial numbers will not help other than to tell it is an import.
The duration of Black Arrow - serial - is 4.5 hours.
