It is not true about if you raise them together from a young age. That is what we did with our cat and Border Collie, and our Border Collie repeatedly attacks our cat almost to the point of killing her.
Dogs of any breed are NOT natural enemies with cats. People have trained their dogs to hate cats, this being said, most people will also tell you that they have had dogs and cats in the same household for years and always get along fine. so if you plan to have a border collie and a cat they will love each other.
it depends how old they are and how long you have had them in your house. it has nothin to do with breeds. if the rough collie has been in your house 2 years it will show dominance if you bring a cat home. it will try to protect its territory and will result in fighting. Its the same Visa Versa. If you have had a cat a couple of years, then you bring a dog in, it won't be happy. I would suggest splitting the house in two if you want both (with child bars- so the cat has one half, dog has other, both have exits out of the house so there is no need to go in each others territory) or you could sell/give away one of them and keep the other. ... Or you could get rid of both and get a goldfish- they don't need as much attention. hahaha
It depends if the are raised with cats around them. I have an 8 month old Welsh Collie and he just wants to play with my cat all the time. In my opinion I think it is the way the dog is raised.
My Border Collie rounds our cat up daily but he is quite gentle with her. He noses her in a playful way and she just boxes him with her paws when she has had enough. They are good mates.
Yes, if they are properly trained and socialized.
