Nearly all colleges in the United States accept the majority of their students for studies beginning in the fall semester. Acceptances for most schools are from about December (the prior year) until April or May before the fall semester begins.

Many colleges also accept students year-round for winter or spring quarter or semester. Most for-profit colleges accept students year round.

When applying for the Fall semester, applications should be submitted by the end of January or early February. For the Spring semester, early October. In other words, as soon as possible! As soon as u finish high school!!!! All colleges only accept a certin amount of students. So to make sure you get in to the college of your choice. Now lets say you have been out of high school a while and now you want to go to college. You can apply at any time just make sure you know the dates of when the semester starts because you don't apply for the spring semester and you get accepted in to the college and you learn you have 2 days to set up your classes

Most colleges use a 3-credit per course scale. In many cases, students can take up to 18 credits per semester (without paying extra), but the majority of students take 15 credits per semester. To move up in class rank and graduate in four years, a student must earn at least 30 credits a year (Either Fall and Spring semesters or additional winter and/or summer sessions).

Most University 'years' are based on starting in September (fall semester) and ending in the Spring semester (either May or June). The University year starts with the year of the Fall semester.

For colleges and universities that operate on a regular two semester academic year, a semester generally runs anywhere from 14 to 16 weeks depending on the institution. Thus, the Fall semester usually starts in early September, and finishes around December 23rd, or 24th. The Spring semester starts about mid January and ends around May 15th. Again, it depends on the institution. Students - while not required - can take advantage of summer and interim sessions. Summer sessions are typically five to six weeks, while interim sessions can take as little as three weeks.
