Yes. Bread is a cheap way of putting weight on young cattle and lactating cows when grain is too expensive to buy and feed. Bread should be fed in moderation, not ad libitum because it is a "hot feed" just like grain, and can cause bloating if too much is taken in at one feeding. Cattle being fed bread should have access to hay at all times to counter balance the rich feed and keep them from bloating on it. But also be careful too because once they get a taste of it, they'll literally walk all over you just to get at it!

Yes. I know a farmer who fed his cows kiwifruit when there was a surplus and the kiwifruit couldn't be sold.

Here in CA cows are often fed the culls of cantalope that can't be sold in the stores.
