Demerit points are added to a user's drivers licence if they are caught breaking any of the laws by an officer, although the rules vary depending on if one has a full or provisional license.

just wait out the 2 or 3 years
The amount of demerit points taken off a license when one has been charged with a DUI offense depends on the state laws of where the violation was charged.
MVR points are given to you in the state of Virginia for various reasons. Demerit points are given when you are convicted of a traffic violation, and remain valid on your record for two years. Safe points are given for every year that you don't receive any violations or suspensions on your driving record. The safe points offset the demerit points.
It depends on what State/Province etc. you are in - in Ontario, Canada you will get 2 demerit points, in Arkansas you get no points, and in Florida you'll get 3 points, for example.
If the ticket happened in Ontario, any turn ticket has 2 demerit points. Even a ticket issued under a city/town bylaw. You can see a complete list of Ontario demerit points at www.demerit-points.com Chris Conway www.ottlegal.com
In a tally, merits are usually a good thing and mean you have received points. Demerits are usually a bad thing and mean you have lost points.
