Giraffes have many features which help them adapt to their habitat.

One of these features is their long necks, which stretch almost 2 meters above their body. This helps them to get fruit and leaves high up in the trees. It also helps them to see far away.

Another feature is their extraordinary tongue, which helps them to eat and chew plants. It helps them to grab them off the bush by wrapping their tongue around the branch and aggressively pulling them off. Their tongues can vary in size, but the typical size of their tongue is about 18 inches.

Both the tongue and lips of a giraffe help it to eat its dinner. This is because the skin around each is very tough. This means that they will not get pricked by the thorns on the plants that they eat.

Like many animals, giraffes have camouflage colored coat which helps the die in with the bush of tree when predators want them as their prey.

Giraffes long legs are useful in many ways:

  • Firstly, to help them stand high to get the food off the trees.
  • Secondly, to help them run quickly when escaping predators.
  • Thirdly, to keep them high up to help them be harder for predators to attack.

Giraffes have very big hearts, which they use to pump blood up through the neck to the brain. The heart of a giraffe is about 2-3 times stronger than that of a humans.

Is a giraffe dumb?

"Dumb" means that an animal (or person) is incapable of making sounds to communicate. Whilst giraffes are generally regarded as silent animals, they do make vocalisations in some situations, so they could not be regarded as "dumb". If the question refers to the intelligence level of giraffes: while they are not among the smartest of animals, they most certainly can learn and adapt their behaviour, which indicates that they are not stupid animals.
