No not really. As long as they have plenty of hay they tend to bury themselves and get warm. If you want to you could buy them a lodge house for them to cuddle up in. Hope this helps Laura yes and whatever you do donot get cedar or pine chips. My guinea pig died because of the ones we got from Walmart. Rachel
No they actually dont..If you have bedding and timothy hay they poop on both sides. And if you take them out of their cag if they get scared they can poop where they are or pee. It really depends on the guinea pig.
It's okay for guinea pigs to have both hay and sawdust, but sometimes sawdust can harm the guinea pig so it's best to put some sawdust at the bottom of their cage, then cover it with some hay. The sawdust soaks up guinea pig wee better than newspaper or any other materials. And guinea pigs love to munch on some hay as well because it helps them digest their food, and they love to sleep in it.
Guinea pigs sometimes get small bits of hay in their eyes and this is not harmful unless the hay is stuck in the corner of the eye. Larger pieces of hay could hurt the guinea pigs eye.
if its beding is hay then yes it normal for any g-pig to eat hay But you should NOT use hay for bedding. Hay is to eat, you should use either aspen (NOT pine) or recycled paper bedding that you buy at the pet store. Improved: Actually, it is normal for guinea pigs to eat their bedding. I know that it is gross, but guinea pigs are supposed to eat their droppings because it gives them necessary nutrients that they don't have time to absorb the first time it goes through their bodies. Recycled paper bedding at the pet store is the best, and the best kind of hay is the KAYTEE brand Timothy hay. Hope that this helps!
Hay helps guinea pigs (and rabbits) with their teeth. It helps keep them nice and trim, you must provide your guinea pig with an unlimited supply of hay everyday.
Usually alfalfa hay is used for young pigs and pregnant sows. It has a lot of calcuim, so they need it. Adult guinea pigs are best to have a good bowl of pellets and all the timothy hay they can eat!
Grazing livestock such as cattle, horses, goats, and sheep eat hay. Hay is also fed to housepets such as guinea pigs and rabbits. Pigs, although not fully herbivorous, can also be fed hay. In zoos, they actually feed camels hay and grains as well. Llamas and alpacas are fed hay as well.
As it is edible for them and helps wear down their teeth. People feed timothy hay to guinea pigs that aren't pregnant or young as if you give a normal guinea pig alfalfa hay (which is for pregnant guinea pigs and young guinea pigs), it will be too high in calcium (I think) which is bad for them.
No, not at all hay helps a guinea pigs digestive system, my two are constantly eating hay :) hope this helped x

It can. Guinea pigs have differentnutritionalneeds than hamsters. Guinea pigs need a diet high in vitamin C. Also guinea pigs can choke on nuts and seeds. Best to stick with guinea pig food for guinea pigs. Try to avoid food with seeds andkernelseven if it isadvertisedfor guinea pigs as it is best to stick with pellets. Guinea pigs have a differentdigestivesystem opposed to hamsters. Be sure to have hay available for guinea pigs for them to graze when they want. Timothy hay is the main part of their diet.AlfalfaHay is best left to baby guinea pigs as it has highcalcium. Orchard hay is well liked among guinea pigs.

fruit veggies and hay
The best type of hay to feed Guinea Pig's are the Timothy hay since it is not too much in calories.
I don't know if I'd say a lot, but guinea pigs do eat a type of hay called timothy hay.
