Do hamsters do better with a friend in the cage?

yes hamsters should have some one else but they must be the same breed and same litter but never ever put 2 Syrian hamsters together because its just plane cruel because they'll fight till the death if you really want Syrian baby's please ask your vet and a (even better than me) hamster expert all i know is that keep them together while your watching them and as soon as the females pregnant take him out!

i have never heard so much crap about Syrian hamsters as i have on this website. i rescued a solid white (normal eyes) Syrian from a pet store where she was living in filth and couldn't even reach her water bottle. i decided she needed a friend and went to a different pet store and bought another one. neither one has ever fought not once. they are now being bred to my bf's sweet Syrian and he has been in there a week with out any problems from the girls!

it depends on the type of hamster syrian hamsters HAVE to live alone russian dwarf hamsters can live in pairs but they may fight chinese dwarf and roborovski hamsters love living in pairs or groups good luck =]

certain hamsters do but no Syrian's winter white hamsters don't get on either.here is the first person to writes answer:If you put two Syrians together they wouldn't get on , but its isrecomended that you but robo hamsters in pairs as they might get lonely , same with Russian dawrf hamsters hope this helps.

No. Syrian hamsters are very solitary animals and will fight if kept with other hamsters. They are also very territorial. Other hamsters such as dwarfs and Russians prefer company, but it is not a necessity.
