When hermit crabs are under stress or sick they may lose legs or claws. An example of this is also when a predator catches a crab by a limb the crab will release the said limp to escape danger. Some crabs may lose a leg or claw when molting. Tyson in Tampa.
my sons hermit crab just lost all of its legs .we accidently left him all night in the sink and apparently he was so stressed he lost all legs trying to climb up i tought he was dead and was getting ready to throw him in the garbage when i saw it move hes still alive but wont come out of his shell im hoping it wont die .

∙ 15y agoi dependes on how many legs the lose if its only one than it should ok mabey two but the will grow back when the crab molts but if the crab has lose so many legs that it can not move or move well than it will die

∙ 12y agosometimes hermit crabs can lose their claws, this is normal! so don't worry if you find a claw in your hermit crab cage, because it will actually grow back! this is normally a result of molting. hermit crabs molt almost every year. this is when your crab loses it's exoskeleton! how cool is that?

∙ 11y agoNo, Hermit crabs lose legs or claws if they are stressed, or if they don't have any food water, or the temp and humidity isn't high enough. humidity and temp should both be between 70 and 80 F/ Percent.
There can be many reasons a crab is stressed, among them the situations listed above, as well as many others too numerous to list here.

∙ 15y agoYes, but that usually means that it's about to die. If they lose 1 or 2 at a time, it might be ok. Losing limbs usually is a sign of stress. Severe stress, and they'll lose them all and die.
