No, but this is a common misconception. Whilst Diabetes can cause high blood sugar levels, high blood sugar levels can't cause diabetes. There is a variety of causes for it, but this isn't one.

Low Blood Glucose is the same thing as Low blood sugar, since Glucose is a form of sugar. Is type 2 diabetes also known as pre-diabetes?

Type 2 diabetes is not the same thing as pre-diabetes. Pre-diabetes, or borderline diabetes, is a condition where the body either slows down insulin production or cannot correctly utilize insulin. Blood sugars are slightly elevated at times without taking any oral medication. This is usually associated with obesity and can usually be corrected with proper diet and exercise. If left untreated, pre-diabetes can become type 2 diabetes, which is basically a more severe form of pre-diabetes. With type 2, high blood sugars are usually treated with oral medication, or insulin injections if necessary. Your body does not produce enough insulin, nor does it use it correctly. This differs from type 1 diabetes, where the body does not produce insulin at all.

What is Nerve damage due to diabetes is termed as?

"Diabetes Medicine" is insulin. Your body produces insulin naturally so it is unlikely! The only thing likely to cause nerve damage is having very high blood sugars for sustained periods of time which can cause damage to blood vessels and nerves. However, assuming the condition is controlled well and levels remain between 3.5 and 8 it will take 40 years for these sorts of complications to occur if at all. The best indicator is an HbA1c test.

What should fasting blood sugar be?

A normal blood glucose level is less than 100mg/dL when fasting and less than 140 mg/dL two hours after eating. A blood glucose level and blood sugar reading are the same thing. A person with higher than normal levels could be diabetic or be diagnosed with pre diabetes. There are several different tests that can be taken for diabetes but it is especially important to get checked if one has a family history of diabetes.

Can pain medicine cause high blood sugar?

Research in 2006 and 2007 (USA and Canada) says nerve pain triggers diabetes and that inflammation (which usually accompanies pain) causes diabetes too. Arguably, hyperglycemia "is" diabetes. (And, arguably, it's not.) Most medics say hyperglycemia causes inflammation. But it happens the other way around too - ie. inflammation causes hyperglycemia. Chicken and egg thing. World Health Org says 'stress hyperglycemia' (non-diabetic hyperglycemia) lasts as long as the 'stress' lasts - and that includes physical stress - ie. pain. So - yes - it seems pain causes hyperglycemia (whether diabetes is present or not). Ergo: whatever condition is causing the pain, it's obviously better for long term health to cure it ASAP - while hyperglycemia may still be reversible. Medics say "but in a non-diabetic, insulin would reduce the hyperglycemia". Hum. But inflammation (and the pain that goes with it) also causes insulin-resistance. The insulin can't work properly because of the inflammation. Seems to me there's insufficient research in this area (and Lord knows I've looked).
