They live for three hundred years. If they are full mermaids. When there three hundreth year is up, they turn to sea foam. Some mermaids die because of ships, pirates, getting dried up, ect, ect. Hope I helped!

∙ 12y agoBarring accidents ( watch out for sharks) or natural law revenge ( as happened to the original title character) they are said to have a maximum life span of 300 years, three times the human maximum. On reaching this age, they are said to effevesce or dissolve into the sea- thus there are no Mermaid fossils. Anderson was NOT a Science Fiction writer but this does show a touch of Sci-Fi.
