What is the difference between microfiber sheets and Egyptian cotton sheets?

Microfiber is woven very tight, nice silk like texture (good for summer) and Egyptain cotton is a bit heavier soft and I perferr it in the winter it tends to keep the heat in, both are really good just get a high thread count above 1000. Keep in mind that microfiber sheets are made of polyester and nylon polymers. Microfiber has a synthetic feel to it and the similarity is analogous to polyester versus cotton clothing. The tread-count comparison to cotton is misleading because a higher count in microfiber does not improve softness the way it does with cotton sheets.

What are microfiber bed sheets?

Microfiber or microfibre refers to synthetic fibers that measure less than one denier. The most common types of microfibers are made from polyesters, poly amides (nylon), and or a conjugation of polyester and polyamide. These fibers are a synthetic blend which gives a very soft, near wrinkle resistant fabric. Microfiber initially started being used as a furnishing fabric for couches and sofas. Later, realising it's ability to breathe well and keep the skin cool, in spite of being synthetic, it is now used to make women's clothing, men's trousers as well as bed sheets. In bed sheets, it has proven to be easily comparable to high-end (and high cost) Egyptian cotton sheets as well as Italian sheets. They can easily be found in stores like JC Penney, BB & B, etc. at a fraction of the cost of the Egyptian sheets and they do provide excellent comfort, wash after wash.
