Yes and no. They know when they want to. Every human being knows right from wrong, it's what they choose to do. If your actually addicted, you know what you are doing, but it's your choice to quit. I know that I have a problem, but choose to do nothing about it.

∙ 13y agoNo. By definition, a person with narcissistic personality disorder fully believes that the way he or she views the world is how the world actually is. Leading experts believe that a true narcissist cannot be cured for the same reason - to admit that they might be wrong or doing something wrong would be so wholly outside their comprehension that they would dismiss it immediately if it ever did enter their minds. To suggest that a true narcissist is wrong would cause that person to lose credibility in the eyes of the narcissist.

How do personality disorder differ from personality traits?
I think you mean personality traits and clinical disorders. clinical disorders are not absolute but exist on a spectrum. If a person exhibits a certain number of specific symptoms over a specified period of time, they will receive a clinical diagnosis. having personality traits means that a person exhibits a portion of what it takes to be diagnosed with a personality disorder. for example, a person can have narcissistic traits (we all do, actually) but not have narcissistic personality disorder.

They may even be proud of it, and end up bragging about it. They are in short, "non-reflective and self-serving". They have an ego syntonic about their irresponsible actions towards others, meaning their way of being, behaving, and thinking is natural to them and they find no fault with what it is they are doing. In closing, having a personality disorder requires the inability for the person with it to see their way of being as wrong or deviant to societal norms. Personally, I believe it also means not having a conscience that should be a part of one's superego in regards to the antisocial pd.
