Best Answer

The narwhal is a mammal. One of the mammalian characteristics is giving birth to live young. Not much information is known about many of the narwhal's activities. Such is true about narwhal mating and delivering. But what is known is having babies the mammalian, not the insecticidal or reptilian way.

.. It is recorded that males and females mate by rubbing their bellies.

The narwhal mating season runs from winter to spring. Females carry their young 14-15 months before giving birth to live babies. So where the baby is born depends upon when the successful mating takes place. But the most popular, peak month for mating is April. So the delivery tends to be in the shallower waters of the uppermost zone of the ocean, to which Narwhals migrate in summer.

The female narwhal delivers young by live birth. She only delivers one calf at the end of the 14-15 months of necessary gestation. At birth, the calf may measure less than 2 meters/6 feet. It may weigh about 80 kilograms/176 pounds.
