They don't get bigger, they move further apart which causes the material itself to expand.
No, generally the spaces between the, do.
yes....
whatever!!
yes
When you heat the jar, the glass expands only slightly while the metal expands much more. This is governed by the coefficient of expansion for the substance. The greater the coefficient of expansion, the more the substance expands. Since metal generally has a much higher coefficient of expansion, the lid of the jar will get bigger while the jar only expands slightly. That makes everything a little looser, which makes it much easier to open the jar.
The individual particles vibrate/move faster. The matter as a whole expands.
An attraction between particles of the SAME substance is called cohesion.
It expands to fill the container.
A homogenous mixture
it expands and it becomes bigger
individual particles do not expand, when a substance expands it is the dead space between the particles that expands and the particles begin to move around (assuming the substance was solid to begin with). If a particle did expand it would loose cohesion and break apart (possibly creating an atomic reaction depending on how it was expanded)
Think of of the expanding substance as a box full of marbles. If it expands, they end up in a bigger space (in this case a bigger box). Because of that they have more room to move around and there will be less particles and less mass per cm2 which is what the density is.
The particles themselves don't get bigger, they do however start moving more quickly and therefore they use up more space to move around in. (That's why most stuff expands when you heat it)
the density decreases because the particles spread out and so less particles occupy the same amount of area meaning the substance is less dense.
......... distances become 100 to 1000 times bigger
water
If the particles in a substance are moving, the volume of that substance becomes larger because the particles move faster and spread farther appart. the mass of the object stays the same because it is the same amount of particles, just in a format in which the volume is larger. hope i helped :)
smoke particles are bigger than gas particles.
It expands.
When heat is added to a substance, the molecules and atoms vibrate faster. As atoms vibrate faster, the space between atoms increases. The motion and spacing of the particles determines the state of matter of the substance. The end result of increased molecular motion is that the object expands and takes up more space.
the two particles move further apart as the universe expands because I am a beaver
