The wisest decision would be to NOT wake them up. Why? It is because it scares and confuses them... really bad. Instead of waking them up, just simply guide them back to their beds and tell them about it in the morning.

∙ 14y agowhen people are sleepwalking , their brain is in a level known as sub - conscious state , where their brain creates an imaginary , but realistic looking world and often in sleep walking , they should not be woken up since the moment they jerk from a sub - conscious to the conscious state , therefore regaining full control of their brain , they as a reflex , pull their brain into conscious state forcefully , in the process they may suffer hyperconsciousness ( confused state ) and brain damage.

It depends on what they are doing, if they look as if they will hurt someone or themselves, then try and wake them as gently as possible. :)
