How come the urine of your pet rat smells?

If they are not very clean then yes. If you are deciding to keep one then you must clean out its cage at least once a week. If you don't your rat/rats will get smelly and will stink. lizzy0izzy: yes, rats to smell, but cleaning their tank makes a big difference! remember not to wash the rat itself and to take the rat out before you clean the tank/cage/area. hope that helps :)

Boy rats smell more than girl rats. My son has to bathe his boys and I have never had to do that with my girls. Keeping cages clean is important, too. Rats are naturally clean animals (girl rats smell like grape pop!)

I have two female pet rats and they give off very little odour - providing the cage is kept clean. Unneutered male rats may give off a slight odour to mark their territory but they are generally not very smelly animals.

they don't really smell the rat but the cage and if your rat dose Smell you can give him or her a bath use cat shampoo to be safe.
