In 2010, the Common Core Standards Initiative removed the requirement that cursive be taught in public elementary schools. It made sense given the rise in computer usage and a greater emphasis placed on keyboarding in the school curriculum. However, several states have since reinstated the cursive requirement, thanks to lobbyists and lawmakers who advocate for the importance of the skill. So yes, some schools do still teach cursive writing.

As I understood it, cursive handwriting came about due to the ink splotches that were made by picking up your quill or old fashioned fountain pens, and putting them back down on the paper. I don't see any use in it anymore except for signing a document or as as calligraphy. But I do admire beautifully written cursive handwriting.

No . I was 6 in 2010, they were teaching me it over there, but now ever since 4th grade, it was all about short hand.

Last time I paid attention was many years ago; before cursive writing was compulsory. Primary students were โ€œforcedโ€ to write โ€œlonghandโ€ and were graded on โ€œpenmanship.โ€ Correct spelling was also emphasized. When they switched to block lettering, the spell checks were dropped. I remember seeing some graffiti in an alley behind our apartment, and I couldnโ€™t believe the โ€œphoneticโ€ spelling and lack of structure and cohesiveness.

mine does not but I know of some schools that still do.

I think that this is because technology is more advanced and most schools now use laptops and computers because it is an easy way to communicate with teachers especially because of corona and distance learning

No, they don't. However schools used to have a specific hand writing format in the past but now a days, schools don't even bother how the students' writing looks. All that matters now is the neatness of work and appropriate content written in the students' notebooks. Some schools may still teach cursive writing. Depends on their choice.

When i was in elementary school almost two decades ago it was barely taught for a week, so i would imagine that now there are no lessons on cursive.

Hi, im here to answer your questions.

To answer your question, it depends on what school you go to.

For me when i was in grading school, we learned cursive but some schools have stopped teaching cursive.

again it all depends.

have a good day, stay save, and wear your mask:)

Today, cursive is taught alongside standard handwriting in some US public schools. ... Proponents of cursive instruction may argue that it is important for overall psychomotor skills, improves penmanship, or needs to be preserved akin to an endangered language.
