Grasshoppers are basically like the pacifist of the bug family. However, they do "bite". The bite does hurt, most likely enough for you to let go of the bug, but the bite isn't deep enough to do any other damage. The common American grasshopper has mandibles big enough to inflict much pain on an unsuspecting finger; or a window screen for that matter

All grasshoppers bite, but not on a regular basis. A grasshopper will only bite if it is trapped and feels threaten otherwise they will hop away to safety.

Nope all of them are different some make a brown liquid that is used to un-apetize its predators but I dont recal ever hearing that any grasshopers bite
