Yes. Mental illness is not related to intellect. It is possible that intelligent people are more prone to certain types of mental illnesses. There is a saying that there is a very fine line between genius and insanity. Nietzsche was said to be a brilliant thinker, and he was, at least during his more lucid moments. Then we have Van Gogh, a brilliant painter who somehow thought that mailing his own ear to his girlfriend was an appropriate thing to do. On the other end of the spectrum, mental illness exists as well. Mental institutions occasionally have mentally challenged persons who also suffer psychoses. So people with any level of intellect can suffer mental illness.
Sure. Organic disease is no respecter of intellect. Highly intelligent people can also be more susceptible to non-organic mental health issues due to putting a lot of pressure on themselves.
Dorthea Dix was a very influential crusader for humane treatment of the mentally ill. She became a champion for the treatment of the mentally ill when she visited a jail and was appalled at the conditions the mentally ill women suffered.

Mentally ill or depressed patient?"
Well according to a psychiatrist I spoke with personally a while back it is possible to have a 'mass psychosis' where two or more people experience the same symptoms as each other. I personally think this is rubbish and was the only way they could explain away something they did not understand. And you can become mentally unwell living with or without mentally ill people/persons. If you are personally attached to the person experiencing mental health issues it can be very taxing emotionally and mentally especially if you have no insight into what the person is experiencing. If you are concerned there are groups for the friends and family of people experiencing 'mental illness'
Artistry of the Mentally Ill was created in 1922.

Not unless the you are mentally ill. Ghosts are not real. Dead people are gone. They do not "watch over" or become spirits. They cease to be in any form. They exist only in the imaginations of the mentally ill. The condition is called delusion.
