For the most part cheetah's are solitary animals. Females usually live alone, except for when they are raising their young. Males often live alone as well, but occasionally will live in small groups which consist of their litter mates.

Well, actually, they don't, male cheetahs (often brothers) pair into groups up to 3. They hunt together, and sometimes even share a mate. Females are alone, unless they have cubs. There's not really an answer for why they live alone... it's just sort of an instinctual thing.
