6. In the 1050s, the whole of the families, from grandparents to children, used to go to football matches on Saturday.

No they don't have the same meaning because sentences 2,3 and 5,6, are incorrect.

When you use the you are talking about onedefinite thing, something we know about, something that has already been mentioned. So in sentence 2 plural towns and plural 'be' verb 'were' are not correct.

If you are talking about several towns (plural) then write "all of the towns were". If you are talking about one town then write "the whole town was left".

How do you write a story with spelling words?

Make a list of your spelling words. Now, think of a sentence that you could use with each of those words. Try to make sentences that make sense together in a story. Then, arrange the sentences into a story -- you can change the sentences and add more sentences to make the story make more sense if you want. Here's an example: Word List: hotel, hound, habitat, hunter Sentences: The hotel was near the woods. The hunter and his hound were hunting foxes. The habitat of a fox is the woods. Story: The hunter and his hound were hunting foxes. The hunter knew that the fox's habitat is the woods. They found a hotel near the woods to stay.
