They can and sometimes they do, but it is unusual because ants seldom go anywhere near their webs. Also, most ants are too small for black widows to pay attention to. Some ants also might fight off a spider with its acid and other nasty chemicals, and some just might taste too bad.
That is of course for worker and soldier ants, but flying ants (young kings and queens out to establish colonies) often get caught in Spiders' webs, and there is not usually any problem about eating them. They are bigger than the workers, and not so fierce.
Mind you, this is true for most other web-building spiders as well. However, some species of spiders, including some that look like ants (look for names like Myrmarachne) hardly eat anything but ants. They are not very good eating, but there are plenty of them, and not much competition for eating them.
Just the opposite, Blue Mud Dauber Wasps kill black widows, so don't destroy their nests unless you like to have black widows hanging around your doorways.

I don't know about in the wild, but when I was a kid I found a wolf spider under my bed and made him a pet. Whenever I found a black widow I'd put it in the cage with Wolfie and he would gobble it up after a few seconds of rolling around with it. The widows seemed to be his favorite food.
no it would kill you if you did that but even if you didet die it you would just look dum.
Spiders aren't poisonous, they are venomous, there IS a difference. It wouldn't kill you if you cut the front half of it's cephalothorax off (the torso bit where it's eyes, fangs and legs are.) The venom glands of a spider are right near it's fangs, so as long as you either cut the entire part of the thorax where they are off, or remove the glands themselves, the spider would be completely harmless to eat. Regardless, they are so tiny it wouldn't really be worth it other than to be able to say "Hey. I ate a black widow spider."
