Depending on who wants to hire you, you might only need to read and write fluently in the languages you want to be an interpreter in. It helps to get a college degree in the language, such as Japanese Studies if you want to work with Japanese interpreting.

You need to be able to spell (interpreter) and have a good understanding of English grammar. You need to be able to speak another language very well and have a good understanding of that languages grammar. You will need to have to have a university degree.
