How to Teach Abroad?

Teaching abroad is a popular career choice among new teachers as well as veteran teachers in the United States. Many teachers that graduate from college choose to teach abroad to gain experience and to travel the world for a few years before they return to the United States and begin teaching American children. To teach abroad you have to apply to a particular program and get accepted. Usually this process takes about a year to two years depending on where and what program you want to go to. Finding a program that allows you to teach abroad is fairly easy, and doing an internet search will provide you with the right options. There are many popular places to teach abroad. A few of the most popular countries to teach abroad at are China, Korea, Japan, Thailand, and the Philippines. Usually, in Southeast Asia there are many positions available for English teachers. That is why Southeast Asia is a popular place to teach abroad at. The pay is decent, and the positions are always available for English teachers. If you want to teach abroad, the guidelines are not strict at all. Typically, to teach abroad you have to have some kind of bachelor’s degree. If you do not have a bachelor’s degree, an Associate’s degree may be enough to get you when to some schools, but having a bachelor’s degree definitely opens more doors. If the teacher has a Masters Degree or better, then they can teach abroad at literally any school in Southeast Asia. Having a Masters degree also increases the amount you get paid, and how long you will be able to stay and teach abroad. If you are interested in teaching abroad, contact one of the foreign teaching agencies on the internet. They are very easy to find and usually have an internet site that will explain all the requirements and recommendations on what you should do to go about finding a position. Teaching English is very easy, so if you want to teach abroad apply to most foreign schools as an English teacher because that is the easiest type of position to get. Do not be frustrated if your first few applications are denied; if you really want to teach abroad keep sending out applications and resumes.

Can you teach English abroad with convictions?

If you can get a visa and residence permit for the country you want to go to then you can teach english abroad legitimately. You may have problems getting a residence permit though especially if you are asked to show police records. If you are just looking for casual work then a high percentage of teachers don't bother with the permit in places like South America. But in the Middle East for example you can not live there with out one. The actual ESL employer is very unlikely to ask about convictions and is equally unlikely to be able to verify them from abroad.
