Not abuse, no. However, if you mean not in great condition, in large animals, this is true.

For instance, in the wild (providing it didn't die within 5 years of living when it might get eaten by a predator or hadn't been shot) elephants live to 60 or so. In captivity they live about 20 maximum. Yes, maximum. Yet the last remaining circus elephant in the UK is 59. That wasn't a typo.

Or tapirs. They always need their back legs in water to urinate. I have seen zoos with tiny buckets infested with flies for the animal to urinate in. To many, that is not good condition.

But abuse, of coarse not! Maybe in a zoo in other country, but if they were abused, the public would probably inform someone. And that is what you should do.

Yes, zoo animals are abused. They are beaten into submission.

Some zoo animals do, like if they are in very small, cramped cages or aren't given the right medication or food. But most zoo animals are treated very well, as the zookeepers want to keep them alive and happy to breed and be entertaining for the public.

Well, it depends on the zoo and what you mean by abuse. A lot of people who work at zoos are really good people who care about the animals, and they treat them as well as they can. But just being in captivity can be considered abuse by some, and of course there are instances where animals are abused, and just the things that people have to do to be safe from the animals can sometimes be a form of abuse. Are they abused often? I would say yes. But not universally, and some places are much better than others.
