You would think so, but no. I had it done years ago. You do feel a little stick, but after a while, you don't feel anything. Just close your eyes and relax.

You feel a slight pinch when the needles are inserted and at times you can feel pins and needles around where the needles are but no pain at all. Its so relaxing - well worth the money.

I had acupressure for the first time today and it did hurt. Now, hours later, I have bruising and pain in some of the spots where pressure was applied. I don't think the woman who applied the treatment was doing it correctly.

Maternity acupressure is very effective in giving relief from labor pains as well, without slowing down your labor. Maternity acupressure is a very simple hands-on technique. What type of alternative medicine uses needles?

In acupuncture very thin needles are used to trigger specific points on the body to relieve pain or reduce stress in an area. It can help psychological issues (addiction) or physical ailments (very common for migraines). Not to be confused with acupressure which is not using needles. They are very thin and are not meant to cause discomfort or pain.

How does accupressure work for labor?

Acupressure during labor is very useful in managing labor pains. Acupressure can be used to prepare expectant mother’s body for labor, too. Stimulation of specific acupressure points helps the cervix to ripen and the baby to engage. Some other pressure points stimulate contractions. What is great is that labor acupressure doesn’t overstimulate your body and it’s easy to use. Because acupressure is merely applying pressure on specific spots on your skin, with basic instructions you can use it safely at home to encourage the labor to start naturally. There is at least one step-by-step labor acupressure guide available online at http://www.MaternityAcupressure.com. Not acupuncture, ACUPRESSURE. Through research, I found out that it is when you push different pressure points throughout the body and it is also used to aid in the pain of labor. I would like to know what spots these are so that I may use them while I'm in labor as I do not plan to have any meds administered to me. The acupuncture is the science of placing very special needles at specifice pressure and nerve points. With labor its place to alleviate the pain of birth. Call an acupuncturist in your phone book and ifs there's not one listed look into chiropactors, some of them may know one or perform it themselves.

What is an acupressure point?

In Eastern medicine, life energy is considered to run through the body in lines called meridians. Along these lines are particular points (tsubo) which are believed to control the flow and balance of energy and can be manipulated beneficially by the insertion of needles (acupuncture) or less invasively using finger pressure (acupressure). The Japanese name 'shiatsu' literally means 'finger pressure'
