In spite of the rumors that caffeine stunts your growth, it doesn't seem to be true. Seeing growth from only the perspective of height, research has shown that caffeine consumption does not impact how tall a person eventually ends up.

So, although most parents would never consider offering their children a mug of coffee, you might consider giving them Pepsi. This soda also contains caffeine. What makes it unique? Caffeine is available everywhere right now, although it is best to limit caffeine usage in children. While the United States has not created caffeine intake limits for children, Canada does, and recommends that preschoolers consume no more than 45 mg of caffeine per day. A 12 oz. can of soda contains the same amount of caffeine. Don't forget that soda has a lot of sugar and calories to begin with, so it's not a smart idea to drink it in the first place, but caffeine adds another reason to avoid it.

So, what effect does caffeine have on children? Caffeine is a stimulant, as I'm sure we all know. Because it stimulates the central nervous system, caffeine is classified as a drug. Again, at lesser doses, it can help individuals feel alert and energized, but when children and adults consume too much caffeine, they can become restless and nervous. It has the potential to upset your stomach. You may experience headaches. Headaches are another side effect of caffeine withdrawal. You may find it difficult to concentrate. You're actually so wired that you can't focus, rather than feeling more alert. It has a significant impact on your ability to sleep. It also raises your heart rate and raises your blood pressure significantly. It makes a difference.

doesn't take much caffeine to have these effects on children. Adults require more, but children do not. So, why is it so difficult for children to consume caffeinated beverages? First and foremost, while we're on the subject of sugar and calories, keep in mind that children who drink one or more 12 oz sweetened sodas a day are 60 percent more likely to be overweight. Too many sweetened caffeinated beverages can cause cavities. Not only does soda include caffeine, but it also contains acid. Tooth enamel can be eroded as a result of this. That's why children who consume a lot of sugary beverages get cavities.

So, what other effects does caffeine have on your body? Caffeine, after all, is a diuretic. That's a term for when something causes you to do something.

Children who consume a lot of caffeine will need to go to the restroom frequently. So, while your kids are outside playing, make sure they don't consume a lot of caffeinated beverages since they need water to replace what they're losing via sweat, not a drink that can dehydrate them further.

If your child has been consuming a lot of soda and caffeine, you should quickly stop feeding them all of the soda and caffeine. This can create withdrawal symptoms. It is, after all, a drug. It is possible to become addicted to it. Again, we discussed the headache, but we can also have muscle aches and even become briefly melancholy as a result of feeling sluggish and down.

It is possible to become addicted to it. Again, we discussed the headache, but we can also have muscle aches and even become briefly melancholy as a result of feeling sluggish and down.

Again, you wouldn't assume that kids drink coffee, but I do have some coffee-drinking patients. Caffeine content in five ounces of coffee is 115 mg. In 12 ounces of iced tea, there are 70 mg of caffeine. Dark Chocolate, which has 20 milligrams in one ounce, is something we normally recommend if you're going to consume chocolate because it's better for you. One ounce of Milk Chocolate has six milligrams of caffeine. Chocolate milk is a healthier alternative to soda, with only five milligrams per eight ounces. So it still has some, but not nearly as much as before. As a result, it's still a superior option, and you'll get your calcium from it.

Someone who is reducing their caffeine intake will become weary. And getting some sleep is the best way to get over that sleepy hump. You'll only set yourself backwards if you reach for a soda or more caffeine. "Hey, I know you're cutting back on the caffeine, but I need some more rest," your body is saying. Don't worry; once your body has processed the caffeine, your energy levels will return to normal in a few days. And it's all right, chocolate is fine. Allow your children to have chocolate cake or Hot Chocolate at birthday parties. They don't contain enough caffeine to be hazardous, unlike sodas.

Coke can possibly stunt your growth because of the amount of caffeine it contains. Also it's just plain unhealthy with all the sugar it has. And no, diet drinks are not better because the sugar substitutions they use are as bad as drinking the actual thing... just don't drink soda.

One thing caffeine does not do, it does not stunt your growth. Scientists once worried that caffeine would hurt your growth, but that's not supported by the research. Again, not a good reason to drink soda though. So again, most kids get their caffeine from sodas.
