NO. There is a timing chain, and under most conditions, lasts the life of the vehicle. Do not get hooked into replacing the timing chain unless absolutely necessary with high mileage and extreme engine abuse. It would cost about $1500 at the dealer.
Prizm's had a timing belt up until 1998 when they then switched to a timing chain.

From what I read it has a timing chain, not a timing belt. I asked the dealer about scheduled maintenance, and changing the timing belt was never mentioned.
the Chevy prizm doesn't have a timing belt it has a timing chain. it doesn't need to be changed unless you hear something or 150k miles. it cost usually 300 with a 90 dollar kit hope that helps Phil
