Despite the ongoing difficulties encountered in the process of naming and classifying the various cactuses that have been found in our world, the International Cactaceae Systematics Group has published detailed treatments recently (in the 21st century, that is) that have divided the family into something like 125-130 genera and 1,400-1,500 species.

∙ 14y agoVery few by comparison to other plants. In most cacti the leaves have been modified to form spines or thorns in order to reduce transpiration (and for protection).
Because the bulk of stomata are found on leaves there will be fewer on a cactus plant as it does not have leaves.

For plant cells, there is a cell wall outside of the cell's membrane. Animal cells do not have walls, so there is no structure outside of the cell membrane.
