No lye relaxers contains a derivative of sodium hydroxide although the sodium hydroxide is not the active ingredient. Some of the other ingredients are calcium,potassium, or bisulfate.

All relaxers contain chemicals but if used and applied properly there should be no to minimal scalp damage or hair loss.
