No. The tip that goes into the speedometer is broken off. Looks like plastic.
check the speedo cable and see if it needs to be lubed. if car has cruise control, it will have a upper and lower cable.
Check the cable to see if it is connected if all is well you could possibly need a new one In Ford's..sometimes the speedometer cable might need lubed as it gets older instead of replacing the whole speedometer. Outside the passenger compartment firewall inside the engine compartment under the hood near the driver's side, you might see where the cable comes out and connects to the cable going to the wheel. A lot of times you can disconnect this connection and drop oil down the cable and that will solve a speedometer which varies while driving.
You can fix the speedometer in your 1994 Oldsmobile 98 by replacing the speedometer cable. If changing the speedometer cable does not fix your speedometer you will need to replace the entire speedometer.
The speedometer is electronic...there is no speedometer cable.
You need to disconnect the cable from the transaxel. Then you pull out your dash cluster. Remove clip from speedometer cable then just pull it out. Reverse for installation.
Chances are you have a steel cable running from the speedometer to the transmission. Over time the cable gets dry. I had this happen on my 80 accord long ago. So I pulled out the cable and lubed it with grease and it worked fine after that. You can try spraying it with WD40 and see if that helps.
Disconnect speedometer cable from back of speedometer gauge by twisting the threaded collar to unscrew. Then just slide the old cable out of cable housing and insert new one. If cable is broken you may need to disconnect cable from transmission tail shaft to remove part of the cable. Cable must be inserted into the gauge end of the cable housing.
The most common reason for a speedometer to fail is a broken speedometer cable. Loosen the nuts on each end of the speedometer cable. Remove the speedometer cable retaining clips. Reverse the process to install the new speedometer cable.
The early 700R4 transmissions had a cable drive speedo. Maybe you can swap the tail housing and gears over.
U HAVE TO REMOVE THE SPEEDOMETER FACE PLATE, AND REMOVE THE SPEEDOMETER AND THERE ARE ALL THE LIGHTS ON THE BACK PART OF THE SPEEDOMETER, PD:BE CAREFULL WHEN REMOVING THE SPEEDOMETER THERE IS A SPPEDO CABLE UNDER NEED U HAVE TO DISCONECT THE CABLE FROM BEHIND.
If it's an analog speedometer, first check the condition of the speedometer cable. It may need to be replaced.
Assuming this happens while you are moving you probably need to replace the speedometer cable.
