Yes. Since 1983 government employees arecovered by SS/Fica like everyone else...and pay into it like everyone else.
Before that (and still in some States and areas), they were allowed to contribute to and are/were covered by a program that is virtually identical to SS/FICA...minor differences, but nothing substantial really. More in name than anything.
Not "everyone" pays into SSI/FICA, those who make over $200,000.00 don't. Why is beyond me as "we" end up paying into their retirement (SSI or SSD) when they get old enough to collect. As with taxes, the "regualr" people pay out while those who can, will not, and use any/all loopholes they can find to avoid it.
