Well it depends. Most people say it hurts like hell the first time. If you have sensitive skin I would suggest shaving or a hair removal cream. If you don't have so sensitive skin or can just cope with pain then epilation may be OK for you. Numbing cream eases the pain, and epilators may hurt less when skin is kept taut. If you have previously waxed then epilators should hurt slightly less then waxing and seem a dream. Eplilators don't have such a good result as waxing but possibly a better one then shaving. Epilators will not stop ingrown hairs.

No I don't think it does. Epilation is plucking out hairs. Think of plucking your eye brows, it does sting a little but waxing is definitely mose painful. When you get a wax it rips all the hair out but it actually takes the top layer of the skin too.

I have the same problem with epilation. I have heard you can avoid ingrowth by daily scrubbing to avoid dead skin build up on the hair follicle. It hasn't helped me much, though.
Laser treatment became popular as a method of epilation around the mid 1990's as it evolved from something that was considered clinical to a mainstream method of hair removal.

You should try out Veet roll on. It is a form of epilation, which removes hair at the root, rather than just the visible portion above the skin. It is not a painful process at all.
