No, it sinks.
That is an absolute answer for an ideal piece of Limestone and pure water. However in day to day life we we can observe limestone floating on warter if
a) limestone is porous with air trapped in it , and/or
b) water is not pure containing heavier substances dissolved in it like salts etc.
+++
Limestone is not that porous! In fact most limestone is barely porous at all.
It is correct that solid objects are more buoyant in brine or similar aqueous solutions more dense than pure water, but the difference is by no means enough to make a piece of rock float.
No. In order for water to melt, it must be in a solid state. Ice is the solid state of water, but we do not say that water melts, the ice melts. Rapid heating of water will produce steam, but the water still does not melt..it evaporates.
Limestone is only sparingly soluble in pure water. It's considerably more soluble in water which is slightly acidic.
Lime stone is CaCO3 it does not melt but decomposes into CaO and CO2 at about 900 Celsius.
825 °C (aragonite)
1339 °C (calcite)
approximate figures
Limestone slowly dissolves in water over time. It is capable of carving large holes in it and eventually dissolving it completely.
No because it is more dense than water...
No, but it will burn.
Yes👍
What sediment float in the water
Is limestone in well water harmful to the human body
an egg can float in salt water.
no an egg does not float in regular water.
Octane float on water.
One word answer: No
in order for granite to float on water, it has to be lighter than water. because if its heavier than water, it will not float!
Limestone is called limestone because it has lime in it from the sea water it if formed in.
it the limestone is acidic
Limestone erodes with water. Limestone can also erode through water getting in to the cracks and then freezing. This causes the crack to expand and will begin to erode the limestone.
You need to specify the quantities of both the limestone and the water.
Limestone caves are formed by the dissolution of limestone rocks over thousands of years due to the chemical reaction of rainwater and carbon dioxide. This process creates underground caverns and passages with unique formations such as stalactites and stalagmites. Limestone caves are often popular tourist attractions due to their natural beauty and geological significance.
Jeremejevite does not float on water.
