Skeletal muscles do form the passageways in the body, but their actions are very rarely involuntary. More often than not, the actions of the skeletal system are performed because the brain sends a signal to those muscles and forces them to move.
Muscle fibers can be smooth or striated. Smooth muscle is often involuntary and line the blood vessels and gastrointestinal tract. Striated muscles may be voluntary, such as skeletal muscle, or involuntary such as cardiac muscle.

Both types of muscle come in a variety of sizes. In general the larger muscles are the striated muscles. The power of a muscle is generally proportional to its cross sectional area (bigger is usually more powerful).

Skeletal muscles have an 'origin' which is where the muscle starts at and an insertion. For example, the biceps origin is at the shoulder. It's insertion point is the tendon where it attaches to the radius and ulna. There are also smooth muscles that line the bodies organs and blood vessels. There is the heart muscle made of cardiac muscle tissue.
