Many studies suggest that while we sleep our brain is processing information we learned that day, sleep makes memories stronger and more vivid, and in our sleep our brain is often solving problems which we had been working on that day. Plus, sleep allows to body to rejuvenate and run properly for the next day so making sure to get a good night sleep the day before a test is a good idea.
Intelligence has nothing to do with it. Lots of famous inventors and scientists had insomnia, but it does not mean they needed less sleep. It has to do with the way your body is wired up, genetic problems, etc. Underlying illnesses can play a big part. Some people are born with the gene that means they can get away with sleeping less. Some are born with the gene that means that their body needs more sleep. It is very individualized for each person. Some can operate at a high level mentally and physically for a long while, but it will catch up to you. Sleep has to do with your brain and body, but NOT how smart you are. Everyone is different, but what your IQ is does not make a bit of difference.

Being rested does not make you smarter, but it does make you more alert and healthy - and that makes sure your brain is working at the peak of performance! Trying to learn when you are tired is like trying to race a car when the motor is clogged up with dirty oil - sure, it'll go, but if you clean the engine out you might actually win the race.
No smoking doesn't make you smarter because it kills your brain cells
It is theorized that some Neanderthal genes may have influenced certain cognitive abilities in modern humans, potentially contributing to traits like adaptability to new environments, language development, and immune system function. However, the exact impact of Neanderthal genes on human intelligence is still a topic of ongoing research and debate.
