If you mean land hermit crabs, no, they don't. Hermit crabs of all sizes can get along just find as long as you: 1. Have enough room. Think of it as 3-5 gallons per crab needed. 2. Are feeding them protein and calcium along with fresh fruits and veggies.

It depends upon the size of the hermit crab. You can fit 5-7 small crabs in a 10 gallon tank but only 1 or 2 large crabs. The more room you leave for your crabs the happier and healthier they will be. be careful not to overcrowd your tank, cos the hermits can get stressed, and may leave their shell or crawl into a corner and sulk :) But probably two or three would be enough room

If your hermit crab runs away the best thing to do is place some aluminum foil down with some tuna and some water in the center. The hermit crabs will move toward water. Check the bathrooms and the waterheater room if they have access. Hermit crabs can roam quite aways so don't be surprised if you find them 3 rooms over!

Land hermit crabs do not typically carry diseases that can be transmitted to a human, but they can carry mites- which can transfer to other pets and crabs. To get rid of mites, simply dip your hermit crab into a bowl of room temperature water for a few seconds with their opening facing upward. The mites should float out.
