An alternator has fast moving parts surrounded by air, so it will make a noise in operation, in much the same way a desk fan makes a noise. (The fan blades spinning in air.)

Under heavy load (battery fully flat) this noise often becomes very slightly louder, due to increased tension in the drive belt causing increased loading on the bearings and the belt, but it would not normally be enough to notice unless tryingto notice it.

If the noise is very noticeable it is probably because one of the items the belt runs on has a bearing in the early stages of failure.

What would make the Battery light come on after changing the alternator and checking the battery in a 92 Chevy c1500?

Battery light usually means alternator not charging. Most common solutions would be be a bad alternator, bad connection, or loose alternator belt. If the battery and alt test ok than check the connections to the alternator and battery.

Why is your 93 saburban shaking and the battery keeps dying?

Sounds like the alternator is not charging the battery up / WORKING check charging system. Charge battery to 12.8 volts and then start engine and hook volt meter to battery and it should read 13.8 to 14.3 volts. If it don't then replace alternator. Also need to make sure the alternator belt is tight.

2003 ford escape battery light stays on you just replaced the battery?

The battery light can come on due to a low charging voltage. Check the alternator for full output, and make sure that the alternator belt is not slipping.

Your battery is making a gurgling noise on your 94 Civic What is going on?

battery will make a gurgling sound when being charged while being charged, the acid(liquid) in battery heats up. u should not hear this in normal conditions in a vehicle should only hear it when on a battery charger check that sides of battery are not bulging.this is a sign that the battery is about worn out and is over charging, have battery, alternator and coplete charging system checked. batteries give off a gas when charging if overcharging, this gas is highly explosive and any small spark can ignite it

Why does john deere tractor with new battery not keep a charge?

Have you checked for a voltage draw on the battery when the key is in the off position. Also make sure the Alternator is charging.

Can a weak battery cause the alternator to make a loud whining noise?

I would say probably not, the reason your battery is weak is I reckon due to a fault with your alternator. It is obviously not producing sufficient power (electricity ) to keep the battery charged. The whining noise is probably caused by worn-out bearings. A replacement or re-conditioned alternator should cure the problem .

You replaced your alternator in your 2000 dodge intrepid but your battery light is still on so you put in another alternator and the light is still on what do you do?

Use a tester to see if the charging system is working properly. If your model has a separate regulator make sure it is working properly. Make sure that your battery is ok, a battery with an internal short can cause the charging light to stay on. The engine computer is the voltage regulator.

What does charging system mean?

All cars have a battery make the electrical components function. The charging system consists of a battery, starter an alternator and a voltage regulator. The battery turns the starter over causing the engine to run. As the engine is running the alternator produces electricityto keep it running. The voltage regulator keeps the current regulated so that the battery does not overcharge. ok, the forst answer was nearly correct except the starter motor is not part of the charging systm. the charging sytem consists of, the battery, the alternator,or generator, and thevoltage regulator. the voltage regulator is sometimes built into the alternator on newer cars ,where as they all used to be an extra equipment bolted onto firewall or inside fender
