sort of, it is a HUGE game. If you don't have much room for it, sometimes it corrupts your files. Also, it is addictive and will destroy your social life! If you have any non-computer friends, don't go on WoW!
Properly written computer games (about 90% of them) will not harm your computer. Some more poorly written ones may overwrite shared libraries that are incompatible with other programs, or like EVE Online, erase critical system files needed to boot your computer.
The official release of World of Warcraft by Blizzard Entertainment does not contain any viruses or virus-like programs. Hackers masquerading as Blizzard Entertainment employees or developers and gold sellers frequently attempt to do so, however, but a savvy gamer has nothing to fear. They can't hack you if you don't give them your account information.
There is a scanning file (called Scan.dll) within World of Warcraft that can gather nonspecific information such as system specs (for information needed when you ask Warcraft to set your video/graphics settings to what they recommend for your computer) internet speed (for downloading updates and content while playing) and to check to be sure you aren't running any cheat programs. If this program is running while your antivirus/spyware is doing a routine scan of your system it will detect this as malware.
Generally no, not if you have a decent enough system to run WoW while you run your other programs. That being said, WoW has been known to use alot of system resources, but that is just because it actually needs them to render all the pretty artwork in the game. IF you find that the game is slowing your computer, try turning down some of the graphics settings, as well as stopping some of the background programs running on your computer.
World of Warcraft itself cannot cause your computer to have viruses, as it is a dedicated application patching directly into the servers of Blizzard. The Launcher even has some anti-malware capabilities to prevent possible issues.
Most often, a virus on your PC with regard to World of Warcraft is contracted by visiting shady gaming or gold-selling sites, adult sites or installing 3rd-party software (such as an addon package, bot or similar program) which happens to have a virus in it.
The official game of World of Warcraft provided by Blizzard Entertainment does not negatively impact computers that are otherwise healthy and meet the system requirements for the game.
Depends on what you mean by slow down: it takes a large amount of resources (especially video) but just having it loaded but not running on your machine does not slow your machine down.
