Yes most likely, however that would be a fairly unwise application of the drug. Zithromiacin is a prescription drug - first of all, and based on your question I am guessing a doctor did not prescribe it for the strep throat. Thus, DO NOT USE IT. Zithro is a powerful anti-biotic and it is important to introduce it to your body sparingly to maintain its effectiveness.

Antibiotics not recommended but often prescribed include other cephalosporins, extended spectrum macrolides (e.g., Zithromax [azithromycin], Biaxin [clarithromycin]), Augmentin [amoxicillin-clavulanate]) or other agents.

yes the preferred drug of choice is penicillin or amoxicillin but Keflex and z-pack work as well.
