Mount Everest
Edmund Hilary did not hire Tenzing Norgay. The expedition leader, John Hunt asked Tenzing to be a member because he had already been high on Everest and had good knowledge of the route.
Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay made history when they were the first to reach the summit of Mount Everest, they did so on the 29th May 1953

Edmund Hillary was from New Zealand and Tenzing Norgay was from Nepal.
Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay reached the summit on their own. They had a whole team in different parts of the mountain at the time but it was just the two of them who reached the top.
Tenzing Norgay reached the summit of Mount Everest just after Edmund Hillary on the 29th May 1953.
