In the book "Night" by Elie Wiesel, Buna was a concentration camp where the main character, Eliezer, was imprisoned during the Holocaust. At Buna, Eliezer experienced extreme hardships, starvation, and witnessed the cruelty of the Nazis. It was a place marked by brutality, suffering, and death.
Meir Katz is Eliezer's father's friend from Buna. In the cattle car to Buchenwald, Katz saves Eliezer's life from an unidentified assailant.
Franek is Eliezer's foreman at Buna. Franek notices Eliezer's gold tooth and gets a dentist in the camp to pry it out with a rusty spoon.
Eliezer and his father were assigned to work in the electrical warehouse at Auschwitz. Eliezer was given the task of sorting electrical equipment, while his father was responsible for repairing damaged electrical parts.
Eliezer later finds out that the French girl who helps him at Buna is a Jewish woman named Zalman's sister. She flees with her father when they are about to be deported and provides Eliezer with encouragement and hope during his darkest days in the concentration camp.

Eliezer and his father lived in the small town of Sighet in Transylvania, Romania, before they were deported to concentration camps during the Holocaust.
Eliezer avoided suffocation by staying close to his father during the death march from Buna to Buchenwald. He also mustered the strength to keep moving and endure the harsh conditions. Additionally, his will to survive and determination played a crucial role in helping him avoid suffocation.
