Engine oil capacity for 2008 Silverado 5.3L?
5QTS. with a new filter.
Previous answer by Neutz is incorrect. Correct capacity is 6.1 quarts with new filter.
Change the filter, and fill with 6 quarts of fresh oil. (5w30)
Would highly recommend Mobil 1 'Extended Performance' 5w30, Castrol Syntec 5w30 (black bottle).
The 5.3L replaced the 5.7L because automakers have to constantly improve on fuel economy and reliability. The new 5.3L fall under GM's 5yr / 1000,000 mile powertrain warranty. The old 5.7L never achieved this. For economy, the new all aluminum 5.3 Liter is the winner, hands down. However the reliability of this engine has not been determined as of yet. The 5.7 however has established a long history of being a very reliable engine.
IAT (inlet air temperature) and CTS (or CATS charge air temperature sensor) are the same thing. For most GM engines, like the 5.3L, a MAFS (mass air flow sensor) is used instead of a CATS. The MAFS is the big black cylinder with a wire bundle coming off of it that is between the clean air hose and the air filter box.
